Recycle bin
Deleted pages go to a recycle bin, where they can be restored for 30 days before they're permanently removed. There's your own recycle bin, and an organisation-wide one for organisation admins.
Deleting a page
Choosing Delete on a page moves it to the recycle bin. It's not gone yet: it disappears from the space, search and public links, and waits in the bin.
Only the page's author and space admins (including organisation admins) can delete a page. In an open space, members who aren't the author or an admin have no Delete option. See Roles and permissions.
Your recycle bin
Choose Recycle bin in the sidebar to open your own bin. It lists:
- every page you deleted, in any space of the organisation, including My space;
- every page deleted by anyone in the spaces you administer.
It never shows pages from another member's My space.
Each row shows when the page was deleted and by whom. Use the Space filter at the top to narrow the list to one space.
The organisation recycle bin
Organisation admins also have Recycle Bin in the admin section of the organisation and space switcher. It lists every deletion across the organisation's shared spaces, with a Space filter. Members' My space deletions aren't listed: those belong to their owners alone.
Empty the bin
- Optionally filter to one space.
- Choose Empty Bin, or Empty followed by the space's name when you've filtered.
- Confirm with Empty Bin.
Every listed page is permanently deleted, except other members' private pages. Those are skipped, because only the person who deleted a private page can remove it. A message then tells you how many pages were deleted and how many were skipped.
Restore a page
Choose Restore next to the page. It goes back to its space, and to its group if the group still exists.
Delete a page forever
Choose Delete forever next to the page and confirm with Delete forever. This can't be undone.
Who can restore and delete forever
| Person | Can restore or delete forever |
|---|---|
| The person who deleted the page | Yes, if they're still its author or an editor of the space |
| A space admin, including organisation admins | Any deleted page in that space |
| Anyone else | No |
A private page can only be restored or deleted forever by the person who deleted it. Rows you can't act on show a note explaining who can.
Retention
Deleted pages are kept for 30 days. After that a nightly clean-up deletes them permanently. The bins remind you how long pages are kept.
Warning
Permanently deleted pages, whether removed by hand or after 30 days, can't be recovered. That includes their version history.
Deleted spaces
Deleting a space doesn't empty its recycle bin. Deleted pages move to the default space along with everything else, and can still be restored there. See Delete a space.
