Deleting your account

Deleting your account signs you out everywhere and schedules your account for permanent erasure after a 30-day grace window. Until then you can change your mind and get everything back.

Before you start

  • Export anything you want to keep. After the grace window nothing can be recovered. See Exporting your data.
  • Hand over your organisations. You can't delete your account while you're the only admin of an organisation that has other members. Make someone else an admin first; otherwise you'll see Promote another admin first. See Admins and ownership.
  • You need a password. If you signed up with GitHub and never set one, set a password first. See Profile and email.

Delete your account

  1. Open Settings and scroll to Danger Zone.
  2. Select Delete account….
  3. Enter your password under Confirm your password.
  4. Select Delete my account.

What happens straight away:

  • You're signed out on every device, and you can't sign in to the app.
  • You're taken to the sign-in page, which shows the date your account will be erased.
  • Folioso emails you the same date.

Change your mind

You have 30 days. To cancel the deletion:

  1. Sign in as usual, with your password or with GitHub.
  2. Instead of opening the app, Folioso emails you a reactivation link.
  3. Open the link within 60 minutes and select Reactivate my account.

Your account comes back exactly as you left it: pages, images, shares and settings. If the link has expired, sign in again to get a new one.

If you want the deletion to go ahead, do nothing.

What's erased at the end of the grace window

When the 30 days are up, Folioso permanently erases your identity. What happens to your content depends on where it is.

Where What happens
Organisations where you're the only member The whole organisation is erased, with all its spaces, pages and images.
Organisations with other members You're removed from the organisation. The organisation and its content carry on.
Your personal space ("My space") in every organisation Erased, with all its pages, including pages in its recycle bin.
Pages you created in shared spaces Kept. They show their author as Former member.
Your private pages in shared spaces Kept, and shown to the organisation's admins under former members' content, where they can transfer or delete them.
Images in pages that are kept Kept, so those pages still display them.
Your profile photo, notifications, sessions and API tokens Erased.
Pages shared with you Your access is removed.
Public links and shares you created on pages that are kept Stay active.

See Former members' content for what admins can do with pages left behind.

Note

Your name can still appear where other people mentioned you inside their pages, and in past notification history. Removing it would mean changing other people's content.

Leaving one organisation instead

If you only want to stop being part of one organisation, you don't need to delete your account. See Working in several organisations.
