Tags
Tags are coloured labels you put on pages, such as python or incident, so related pages are easy to spot. This page covers adding tags to a page, creating and managing tags, and how tags belong to spaces.
How tags work
- Tags belong to a space. Each space has its own set, and a page can only carry tags from its own space. A tag called
apiin one space is a different tag fromapiin another. - Names are unique within a space. A space can't have two tags with the same name.
- Every space starts with language tags, one for each language in the code block menu, such as TypeScript, PHP, Python and SQL, each in its own colour. These default tags can't be renamed, recoloured or deleted.
Tags appear under a page's title and on All Pages.
Add a tag to a page
You need the Editor or Admin role in the space, or to be the page's author.
- Open the page. Under the title, click Add tag.
- Start typing in Search or create tag…. Matching tags from the space appear.
- Click a tag, or use the arrow keys and Enter, to add it.
To create a new tag on the spot, type its name, choose a Colour, and pick Create "name" at the end of the list. It's added to the space and to the page.
To take a tag off the page, click the × on it (Remove tag name). The tag stays in the space for other pages.
People who can only view the page see its tags but can't change them.
Manage a space's tags
Tags for the space you're in are managed from your settings.
- Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Find Tags in space name.
From there you can:
| Task | How | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Find a tag | Type in Search tags… | Anyone in the space |
| Create a tag | Type in New tag name…, pick a colour and click Add | Editors and admins |
| Rename a tag | Click Rename, change the name and click Save | Editors and admins |
| Change a tag's colour | Click the colour dot and pick a new one | Editors and admins |
| Delete a tag | Click Delete, check the pages listed under "It is currently used on:", then click Delete | Space admins only |
Tag names can be up to 50 characters. If the name is taken, you'll see "This space already has a tag with that name."
Deleting a tag removes it from every page that carries it. The pages themselves aren't changed otherwise.
To manage another space's tags, switch to that space first, then open Settings.
Tags when pages move
- Moving a page to another space takes its tags along. Each tag is matched to the tag with the same name in the new space, which is created if it doesn't exist yet.
- Duplicating a page copies its tags.
- Deleting a space moves its pages, with their tags, into the default space.
