Quick start
Create your Folioso account, set up your organisation and write your first page in a few minutes. This page walks through registration, the plan step and what you'll find when you first sign in.
Create your account
- Go to folioso.dev/register.
- Fill in Your name, Work email and Organisation. The organisation name becomes the name of your workspace. You can rename it later.
- Choose a Password. It needs at least 8 characters, with a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a number and a symbol. The form ticks each rule off as you type.
- Re-enter it under Confirm password and click Create account.
Sign up with GitHub instead
Click Continue with GitHub on the registration or sign-in page. Folioso uses the verified primary email address on your GitHub account, so you don't need to verify it again, and creates a workspace named after you, such as "Ada's Workspace". You can rename it later.
If your GitHub account has no verified email address, sign-up stops and asks you to verify one on GitHub first. If you already have a Folioso account with the same verified address, GitHub is linked to that account instead of creating a new one. See Signing in.
Note
An account created with GitHub has no password until you set one. You can always sign in with Continue with GitHub.
Pick a plan
After Create account, the Plan step asks you to choose a plan for your new organisation. Everyone starts on Free, and you can change plan whenever you like from the organisation's Billing page. Click Continue to Folioso to finish.
For how plans work, see Plans, and for what each plan includes, see the pricing page. For what happens when you change plan later, see Choosing a plan.
You skip the plan step when you sign up to join an organisation that invited you, or with a sign-up invite that already includes a plan.
If you were invited
When an organisation admin invites you, you get an email with a link. Open it and, if you're new to Folioso, create an account with the address the invitation was sent to. The form fills it in for you and won't let you change it.
You join the inviting organisation straight away and land in it. Because you opened the link from your inbox, your email address counts as verified. Folioso also sets up a workspace of your own alongside it, shown on the form as "You're joining … We'll also set up your own workspace". Click Change to rename that workspace before you create the account.
Invitations expire after 7 days. If yours has expired, ask an admin to resend it. See Members and invitations.
If sign-ups are invite-only
At times Folioso only accepts new accounts by invitation. The registration page then shows Folioso is invite-only for now. Leave your email and click Register interest to hear when a place opens up.
You can still create an account while sign-ups are closed if you have:
- an invitation to join an organisation, or
- a sign-up invite link. Opening it takes you to the registration form, which may say "You've been invited to try Folioso on the … plan, free."
While sign-ups are closed, paid plans on the plan step may be marked Invite only. Start on Free, and use Register interest on that step to hear when they open.
Verify your email address
Folioso emails you a verification link when you register with a password. You can use the app straight away, but until you verify you can't share pages, turn on public links or invite people. A banner reminds you: "Verify your email address to share pages and invite people." Click Verify now to open the verification page. See Signing in.
What you get
Your new organisation comes with:
- You as its admin and owner. You manage members, spaces and billing.
- A space called General. It's the organisation's default space and it's open, so everyone you invite can read and edit its pages.
- My space. Your own private space. Nobody else can see it, including other admins.
- The plan you picked, or Free.
- A welcome page in General, with a short introduction and a sample code block. It's an ordinary page, so edit or delete it whenever you like.
You land in the General space. Your organisation has its own address, such as org123456.folioso.dev. If your plan includes a custom address, you can choose a memorable one. See Organisation settings.
Write your first page
- Click New Page in the sidebar. A blank page opens in the editor.
- Type a title where it says Untitled, then press Enter to move into the page.
- Start writing. Type
/at the start of a line to insert a heading, code block, task list, table, image, diagram or alert box. - Stop typing and Folioso saves your changes about 3 seconds later. The header shows Saving… and then Saved.
Next, try:
- Code blocks for highlighted snippets.
- Tags to label the page, for example by language.
- Groups to sort the space's pages into folders.
- Sharing with people to send the page to someone.
Invite your team
If you're an organisation admin, open the organisation and space switcher at the top of the sidebar and choose Members to invite people by email. See Members and invitations. Admins of an organisation with other members must use two-factor authentication, so you may be asked to set it up first. See Two-factor authentication.
