Page links and mentions
Link to another Folioso page by typing #, and tag a colleague by typing @. This page covers both pickers, what readers see, and who gets notified.
Link to another page
- In the body of a page you can edit, type
#at the start of a line or after a space. - Keep typing part of the page's title. A list of matching pages appears, each with its space and group underneath.
- Use the arrow keys to choose and press Enter or Tab, or click a page. Press Escape to close the list.
The link appears as a chip with the page's title. Click it to open the page.
- What you can link to: any page you can open, in any space, and in any organisation you belong to. The list shows up to eight matches, most recently edited first. If nothing matches, it says No matching pages.
- Where it works: not inside code blocks or inline code, so
#includeand shell comments are left alone. A#followed straight away by a space still makes a heading, as usual.
Titles stay up to date
A page link stores which page it points to, not its title. Every reader sees the page's current title, so renaming a page updates every link to it.
Readers who can't open the linked page see Restricted page with a lock instead of the title, so a link never reveals a page they don't have access to.
Linked from
When another page links to the one you're reading, it's listed under Linked from beside the text (or in Outline, child pages and backlinks at the end of the page on a narrower screen). You only see linking pages you can open yourself.
Mention someone
- Type
@at the start of a line or after a space. - Type part of the person's name. Up to eight matching people appear.
- Choose one with the arrow keys and Enter or Tab, or click them.
The mention appears as @Name in the text. If nobody matches, the list says No matching users. Typing an email address such as me@example.com doesn't open the list.
Who you can mention
You can mention anyone who can open the page:
- the page's author;
- everyone the page has been shared with;
- unless the page is private, everyone who has a role in the page's space.
What the person gets
When the page saves, each person you mentioned gets an in-app notification: "Your name tagged you in "Page title"". It appears under the notifications bell and links straight to the page. Mentioning yourself doesn't notify you. Mentions don't send email. See Notifications.
Mentioning someone doesn't give them access to the page. If you need someone who can't see the page to read it, share it with them. See Sharing with people.
Who can add links and mentions
The # and @ pickers only appear for people who can edit the page.
Links and mentions elsewhere
- Export as Markdown writes a page link as a normal Markdown link with the page's title and address, or as
Restricted pageif you can't open the page. A mention is written as@Name. - Search doesn't include the text of page links or mentions.
To link to a website rather than a Folioso page, see Links.
