Admins and ownership
Every member of an organisation is an admin or a member, and one admin is the owner: the billing contact who can't be removed until they hand the organisation on.

An organisation admin is an admin of every shared space, but not of other people's personal spaces. Nobody but its owner can open a personal space ("My space"). Private pages belong to their author and the people they're shared with. Admins only reach a former member's private pages through Former members' content. For space roles, see Space permissions.
Important
Admins and owners of an organisation with more than one member must use two-factor authentication. See Two-factor authentication.
Changing a role
Only organisation admins can change roles.
- Open the Members tab.
- In the member's Role dropdown, choose Admin or Member.
The change applies straight away. When an admin becomes a member, they lose admin access to every space at once and keep only the access they hold through their own space grants and teams.
The rules:
- You can't change your own role. Another admin has to do it.
- The last admin can't be demoted. If other members remain, promote someone else first. The error reads "Promote another admin first."
- The owner can't be demoted. Transfer ownership first.
- A suspended member can't be promoted. Unsuspend them first.
The owner
The owner is the organisation's billing contact of record. Whoever registers the organisation is its first owner. The owner must be an admin. While they're the owner, they can't:
- be demoted to member;
- be removed from the organisation;
- be suspended;
- leave the organisation.
Settings shows the current owner under Ownership.
Transferring ownership
Only the owner can transfer the organisation, and only to someone who is already an admin.
- If the person isn't an admin yet, make them one on the Members tab.
- Open Settings and go to Ownership.
- Under Transfer to, choose the admin.
- Click Transfer ownership.
The transfer is immediate. The new owner doesn't need to accept it. Both of you are notified. You stay an admin, so you can now be demoted or leave like anyone else.
If there's nobody to choose, Settings says "There's no one to transfer to yet — promote another member to admin first."
Claiming an ownerless organisation
If the owner's account is deleted, the organisation is left with no owner, and Settings shows "No owner — any admin can claim this organisation." Any admin can then choose themselves (or another admin) under Transfer to and click Transfer ownership.
Leaving an organisation
To leave:
- Click the organisation card at the top of the sidebar and choose Leave organisation, or click Leave on your own row of the Members tab.
- Confirm with Leave.
You lose access straight away. Your pages stay where they are for the remaining members, and Folioso takes you to another of your organisations.
You can't leave:
- your only organisation. To leave Folioso altogether, delete your account;
- an organisation where you're the only member. Invite someone first, or delete your account;
- as the last admin while other members remain. Promote someone else first;
- as the owner. Transfer ownership first.
Leaving doesn't stop you rejoining later through a verified domain.
